Score

Music Publshing Glossary

Music composed for an audiovisual work, such as a film, television show, or video game, is known as a score. A score is necessary to create a specific mood that cannot be achieved by using previously-existing musical works. A score composer may be paid up-front and relinquish their copyright in a “work-for-hire” agreement. Alternatively, they may receive a combination of fees and ongoing royalties associated with their copyright ownership for the score compositions.
