RAEs are organizations that provide mechanical licenses and collect and distribute mechanical royalties. Unlike CMOs, RAEs are privately-owned and can be for-profit. They have the right to select their members and don’t require legal permission to operate. Music Reports (MRI) is an example of an RAE in the United States.
