Producer

Music Publshing Glossary

In the music industry, a “producer” is responsible for overseeing the performers, mixing, and arrangement of a song, as well as a specific recording of a song. Typically, they own the studio and hire session performers and other subcontractors. Producers often contribute to the songwriting process and therefore receive a share of the song’s overall royalties. This means that a producer can also be considered a songwriter and is entitled to collect songwriting royalties.
