Fair Use

Music Publshing Glossary

Fair use” is an exception to the exclusive rights given to the copyright holder of a creative work. It means that another party can use the copyrighted material in a limited way without getting permission from the rightsholder. In certain situations, activities such as parody, commentary, search engines, criticism, news reporting, research, teaching, library archiving, and scholarship may be considered as fair use.
