Administrator

Music Publshing Glossary

An administrator is a professional who manages finances and copyright matters for a song or catalog. Their primary role is to protect song copyrights, collect royalties, issue licenses, and ensure that songwriters are paid correctly. Most major publishers and many independents handle administration for the catalogs they own and control internally. However, smaller publishers and many individual songwriters who do not want to give up their copyrights sign deals with companies like Songtrust, which exclusively focus on providing administration services without taking an ownership interest.
